10. Giraffe Center & Karen Blixen Museum

Today we had a great day with a Swedish friend of ours, Agnes, who is also doing her Minor Field Study in Nairobi. She arrived just a few days ago, and today was the first time we managed to get together. Starting before lunch we went up to the Giraffe Center.

The giraffe center is a huge sanctuary where the giraffes may roam freely as they will. They usually spend time where the people are as they know they can get some extra food. Just next to the center there was also a "nature walk", in which we took a stroll.

After the center we ordered an Uber to the museum for Karen Blixen. She is the Danish author of the book "Out of Africa" that came to Kenya in the beginning of the 1900s. She was known for starting up a children school and caring for locals, but she faced many difficulties. She moved back to Denmark some 30-40 years after coming to Kenya never to return. The picture below is of the museum which is the actual house in which she lived. We also took a group picture with our awesome guide, Chris, who actually knew some Swedish!

We ended the day by walking along the road to a nearby restaurant. I ordered chicken and Carro ordered pork chops. We have had a great day! Now we are waiting for some dinner that we will share with our new hosts 🤩
