7. Nairobi Rainfall & First Time at ILRI

Yesterday afternoon we both went up on the apartment rooftop and managed to take these pictures out over the area:

The winter rainseason usually ends in December every year, making January one of the dryest and hottest months. Yesterday evening however, a large rainfall came in over Nairobi. People living in houses and huts below the apartments got flooding and we lost the electricity. Luckily we came prepared with head lights etc.

We woke up to a somewhat drenched Nairobi, but according to our local uber driver this rain was nothing compared to the real rain season. Today was finally our first time over at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), the place where we will do all of our work for the project. We had meetings with our supervisor and got a guided tour in Swedish by a swede who has been living and working (at ILRI) in Nairobi the last decade. We got some change of plans regarding the project, and instead of the initial week out in the rural fields we will now probably have two instead.

The facilities at ILRI were amazing, and the pictures can't do it justice. The institute is very large in size and situtated on the side of a mountain/hill. There is so much greenery and neatness, and within the area they've got a 7-days-a-week resturaunt with a pool under the palm trees. There is a gym and a bar too, making the afterwork hours or weekends into vacation.
